ART FOR LIFE’S SAKE

The noted late photographer, Rodney Smith, orchestrated every detail of his life and work, where he insisted on maintaining the most exacting of standards. His creative process was intricately connected to how he examined his own life, how he got to know himself, how he drew clarity from his emotions and translated them into pictures.

Making art of substance means drawing inspiration from the past. My purpose is to reveal some truth about life that endures throughout generations.

“I kind of represent a world that is possible if people act at their best. It’s a world that’s slightly beyond reach, beyond everyday experience, but it’s definitely not impossible,” he explained.

Rodney’s motivation might have been rooted in the past, but his artistic statement and connection with his collectors is timeless. Through Studio E’s relationship with Rodney’s New York studio, collectors can get a rare peek at how iconic photography is made.
