ART FOR LIFE’S SAKE

If you asked Rodney to name the artists he would most like to have over for dinner, the menu would certainly be pasta and Barolo, and the guest list would surely include DaVinci and Botticelli. For Rodney, making art of substance means drawing inspiration from the past. “My purpose is to reveal some truth about life that endures throughout generations.”

Making art of substance means drawing inspiration from the past. My purpose is to reveal some truth about life that endures throughout generations.

While Rodney’s striking photography has appeared in publications as varied as Vanity Fair and The New York Times Magazine, he still remembers his very first collector. “I was very young and just out of graduate school. I desperately needed a patron. Along came Mr. E.J. Yancy who, over a period of several years, must have collected at least 75 prints. This made a huge difference in my young life. Today there are many people who have purchased numerous prints, but he was the first.”

Rodney’s motivation may be rooted in the past, but his desire for connection with his collectors is firmly grounded in the here and now. Through Rodney’s relationship with Studio E, collectors can get a rare peek at how iconic photography is made.
